pptendersglobal.net /p h3Work Location /h3 pAddis Ababa for in-person internships – Home for remote internships /p h3Expected Duration /h3 p04/03/2024 – 03/06/2024 /p h3Duties and Responsibilities /h3 pThe position is in the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Internship Programme is unpaid and full-time, i.e., an intern is expected to work five days per week (40 hours). The internship is offered either on an in-person or remote basis. /p pThe position is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in the Regional Office for Africa of the Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes (ALDC). The internship will tentatively start on 4 March 2024 for an initial period of three months. /p pFor in-person internships, interns must have a valid visa. All costs of travel, accommodation, medical insurance and living expenses must be covered by the intern. /p pTo work remotely the applicant shall have full access to a computer with a modern browser in which to run the latest version of Office 365 applications that will allow him/her to perform the tasks within the scope of the internship. The computer must have basic IT security best practices implemented. At a minimum, the applicant should have: /p ul liInstalled on his/her computer the latest version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, software and security updates as soon as they are issued. /li liEnabled the built-in software firewall that comes with the operating software of the computer. /li liEnabled the password manager for the creation of strong passwords and to secure access to all UNCTAD/UN-related resources. /li /ul pRESPONSIBILITIES: /p ul liTraining and mentoring will be provided all along the internship. Carrying out his/her tasks under the supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer, the intern will perform the following functions: /li liSupport the dissemination of UNCTAD’s research /li liAssist in organizing briefings and meetings with member states, RECs, partners, parliamentarians, and other stakeholders /li liAssist in developing concept notes and project proposals in selected areas of ALDC ROA’s work areas /li liAssist in undertaking analysis on topical issues on the African continent which are related to UNCTAD’s mandate, and ALDC ROA’s work areas /li liAssist in identifying updated and new relevant information and research documents on issues related to UNCTAD’s mandate /li liAssist in preparation of briefing notes, workshop reports and compiling statistics /li liAttend and assist in summarizing conferences and meetings as necessary /li liAssist in identifying initiatives and major meetings at Africa and regional levels, where UNCTAD can participate in (with the UN, African Development Bank, Afriexim Bank, AfCFTA Secretariat) /li liUpdate and improve information contained in the office databases, perform internet-based research and catalogue information related to the work of UNCTAD /li liAssist with any other assignments assigned by the supervisor. /li /ul pMore generally, interns shall: /p ol liObserve all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives of the Organization notwithstanding their status as described in section 4 of the UN Internship Programme Administrative Instructions ST/AI/2000/9 ST/AI/2005/11. /li liProvide the receiving departments/offices with a copy of all materials prepared by them during the internship. The UN shall be entitled to all property rights, including but not limited to patents, copyrights and trademarks, with regard to material which bears a direct relation to or is made in consequence of, the services provided under the internship. At the request of the UN, the interns shall assist in securing such property rights and transferring them to the UN in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law. /li liRespect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and of the receiving department/office and shall not seek or accept instructions regarding the services performed under the internship agreement from any Government or from any authority external to the UN. /li liUnless otherwise authorized by the appropriate official in the receiving department/office, they may not communicate at any time to the media or to any institution, person, Government or any other external source any information which has become known to them by reason of their association with the UN or the receiving department/office, that they know or ought to have known has not been made public. They may not use any such information without the written authorization of the appropriate official, and such information may never be used for personal gain. These obligations also apply after the end of the internship with the UN. /li liRefrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or on the receiving department/office and will not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the UN. /li /ol h3Qualifications / Special Skills /h3 pApplicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: /p ul liBe enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, /li liBe enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). /li /ul pMoreover, interns should: /p ul liBe computer literate in standard software applications; /li liHave a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and /li liHave a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. /li /ul pFor this position the university degree must be in the area of economics. /p pGood knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams is required. /p pNo working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. /p pYour training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. /p h3Languages /h3 pEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. /p h3Additional Information /h3 pASSESSMENT: Candidates will be assessed based on their Personel History Profiles (PHP). Individual interviews may be conducted for further assessment. A complete online application (Cover Note and Personal History profile) is required. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
