Engineering Lead | UAV Gimbals & Stabilised Sensor Systems

How do you maintain precise line-of-sight stabilisation on a UAV when you're dealing with vibration, platform motion and tight size, weight and power constraints?
I'm working with an innovative unmanned systems company looking for an Engineering Lead to take technical ownership of its airborne gimbal and stabilised sensor technology.
This is an opportunity to lead the development of complex electromechanical systems, combining precision mechanics, embedded electronics, control systems and electro-optical sensors.
You'll own the engineering from initial architecture and design through integration, validation and series production.
The engineering challenges:
- Develop high-performance multi-axis gimbal and stabilisation systems for airborne applications
- Drive system architecture across mechanical design, electronics, embedded software and control algorithms
- Tackle challenges involving vibration isolation, pointing accuracy, dynamic response and SWaP constraints
- Integrate EO/IR payloads, sensors, actuators and feedback systems
- Lead multidisciplinary engineers through prototyping, testing, qualification and production
- Make critical technical decisions while remaining close to the engineering
You'll ideally have:
- Strong understanding of servo control, motion control and system integration
- Experience developing hardware from concept through to manufacture
- A track record of leading multidisciplinary technical teams
- The ability to balance system performance, reliability and manufacturability
- Experience in UAVs, aerospace, defence, robotics or advanced imaging systems would be particularly relevant.
