Organizational context: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the lead UN agency for international development, operating in 170 countries. The Bureau for Advocacy and External Relations (BERA) shapes UNDP's public narrative, builds strategic relationships, and secures funding. Within BERA, the Communications Group manages external communications, and the Visibility and Impact for Partnerships (VIP) Team enhances partner visibility and engagement, connecting influential voices to resource mobilization efforts. Job purpose: The Communications Specialist, Celebrity Relations, is a key member of the Visibility and Impact for Partnerships Team. This role is responsible for leading UNDP’s corporate Goodwill Ambassador and celebrity relations function. The incumbent will manage communications initiatives and opportunities involving Goodwill Ambassadors, Advocates, influencers, and other high-profile supporters. This position contributes to UNDP's strategic goals by leveraging these relationships to enhance visibility, demonstrate impact, and support resource mobilization efforts, aligning partner priorities with UNDP's mission and results. The role requires working within multidisciplinary teams to achieve integrated and systemic responses to global development challenges. Responsibilities: The role involves managing the day-to-day Goodwill Ambassador Programme, serving as the corporate focal point and relationship manager for existing Ambassadors and Advocates. This includes planning their engagement with UNDP, positioning them across media platforms, and contributing to communications materials such as speeches and press kits. The Specialist will also expand the program by developing communications plans, identifying and recruiting new Ambassadors, and supporting their orientation and engagement. Coordination with the Geneva office for specific initiatives like the Match Against Poverty is required. Additionally, the role provides advice and support to UNDP offices on celebrity management, connects global Ambassadors to national efforts, and supports the broader VIP Team's work by identifying opportunities for high-profile supporters in partner communications and visibility plans. This includes designing integrated engagement plans and producing content that showcases UNDP's results and partner contributions. Education: An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Arts, Social Science, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's) in these fields with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be considered. Work experience: A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience (with a Master's degree) or 9 years (with a Bachelor's degree) is required in communications, celebrity management, marketing, public relations, or journalism. Experience in the entertainment industry/talent management and a proven track record in artist/celebrity relationship management, preferably in a social cause context, are essential. Experience with media, multimedia, and social media is also required. Experience in media/marketing for special events, international development, donor communications, or resource mobilization is preferred.
