Organizational context
The Blue & Green Islands Integrated Programme (BGI IP) addresses environmental challenges in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), enhancing collaboration and partnerships among 15 country projects. A Global Programme Coordination Unit (GPCU) manages the BGI IP, ensuring coherence and strategic engagement. The SIDS Coalition for Nature (SCN), launched in 2022, aims to catalyze partnerships and advocate for SIDS priorities, working with the BGI IP to elevate SIDS leadership and scale integrated solutions.
Job purpose
The SIDS Coalition for Nature Coordinator will lead and coordinate the development, functioning, and strategic engagement of the SIDS Coalition for Nature. This role facilitates strengthened regional and global collaboration among SIDS, supports the upscaling of country project results, and ensures coherent representation of SIDS priorities in multilateral processes. The Coordinator will engage with SIDS Coalition leadership, AOSIS, governments, and regional bodies to advance nature-positive development efforts. The position is technical, coordination-focused, and facilitative, providing support for SIDS governments and AOSIS advocacy without representing them in political negotiations. The role ensures that all outputs are reviewed and approved by appropriate SIDS authorities before external use.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the implementation, monitoring, and follow-up of the Coalition’s work programme, including updating the SIDS Nature-positive Development Roadmap and ensuring coherence with global frameworks like the GBF and Paris Agreement. Support partnership development, proposal drafting, and resource mobilization for SIDS-led nature action. Serve as the primary liaison for the SIDS Coalition with AOSIS, SIDS governments, regional organizations, and UN agencies. Coordinate global and regional policy engagement to elevate SIDS priorities on nature, climate, and sustainable development, and support SIDS-led advocacy in key multilateral processes. Prepare analytical briefs and policy inputs for intergovernmental negotiations and high-level dialogues. Facilitate the upscaling of BGI Child Project results through regional and global platforms, promoting South-South cooperation. Ensure gender equality and social inclusion in all Coalition activities and produce quarterly reports for the BGI Global Programme Coordination Unit.
Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in international relations, public policy, environmental policy, development studies, economics, or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted.
Work experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience (with a Master’s degree) or 7 years (with a Bachelor’s degree) is required in international policy coordination, SIDS/global negotiations, coalition management, environmental diplomacy, or nature/climate governance. Demonstrated experience working with SIDS governments, AOSIS, regional organizations, or multilateral platforms is essential.
