As one of Germany’s leading institutes in the field of turbomachinery, the Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics (TFD) is distinguished by its close collaboration with renowned industrial partners and its excellent fundamental research, for example within several Collaborative Research Centres (871, 880, and 1463) as well as the Cluster of Excellence SE²A. Our research covers a wide range of topics in turbomachinery, offering you the opportunity to gain insights into a broad variety of fields during your time with us.
The Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid‑Dynamics welcomes applications for the following position starting at the earliest possible date: Research Staff / Academic Staff in the field Aeroelasticity of Turbofans (salary scale 13 TV-L, 100 %)
The fixed‑term position is limited to a period of two years, with the possibility of an extension. The position is full‑time and corresponds to 100% of the regular working hours under the applicable collective agreement. The opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree is provided.
Your role
- You will be involved in an EU‑funded research project in collaboration with national and international industrial partners and research institutions.
- You will conduct joint experimental investigations on a test rig to analyse aeroelastic vibration phenomena in turbofan aircraft engines under crosswind conditions.
- You will perform preliminary tests using an optical measurement technique based on pressure‑sensitive paint (PSP) and transfer the findings to the subsequent test rig measurements.
- You will develop methods and models for the analysis and assessment of the experimental data.
- You will perform numerical simulations of the test rig to predict blade vibrations under crosswind conditions using finite element methods (FEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
Who are we looking for?
To qualify for the position, applicants must have a university science degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable course of study, for example with a focus on fluid mechanics, thermal turbomachinery, aircraft engines or similar.
In addition, the following qualifications are desirable:
