We are looking for excellent applicants with a focus on research and teaching in the field of strategic communication. The new tenure track position will have a special focus on strategic financial communication and influencer communication. The successful candidate is expected to develop the field at the intersection of strategic financial communication and influencer communication as part of the qualification agreement. Starting December 01, 2026, the position is 6 years fixed-term. A qualification agreement will be concluded at the start of employment (§ 27 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement). After successful completion of the agreement, the employment relationship can be made permanent. Three years after completion, eligibility for promotion to full professor applies according to the By-Laws of WU § 43a. What to expect
Development of research and professional network:
Develop and maintain a network with leading researchers in financial communication and build a professional network in Vienna and beyond.
Independent research work:
Collect data, work with cooperation partners and companies to conduct research with practical relevance, and publish in top journals; present at conferences.
Building bridges:
Collaborate with other departments at WU to establish research and teaching collaborations.
Teaching:
Plan and teach courses (4 hrs/week, 2 courses per semester), develop new master’s courses focused on financial communication.
Student support:
Advise bachelor’s and master’s theses.
Organizational and administrative support:
Organize and evaluate teaching activities and support the master’s program, including student selection.
Learning from top researchers:
Collaborate with renowned researchers in the field.
Teamwork:
Engage in collaborative research and third-party funding efforts.
Building a personal network:
Establish yourself as a researcher during the qualification period and contribute to WU’s societal engagement.
What you have to offer
Doctoral Degree / PhD
in communication studies or related fields (e.g., economics, sociology, linguistics, psychology).
Subject-specific competences:
Strategic communication with a focus on financial and/or influencer communication; sustainability, greenwashing and CSR communication are advantageous.
Methodological knowledge:
Quantitative social science methods, especially experimental and survey designs; media effects research is advantageous.
Research funding:
Commitment to and experience in attracting research funding.
Teaching experience:
Teaching in strategic communication and communication science; supervising BA/MA theses is advantageous.
Language skills:
Fluent English (C1); willingness to learn German.
IT Skills:
MS Office, SPSS or R for quantitative data analysis.
Publications and outreach:
Experience publishing and presenting research internationally.
Organizational knowledge:
Understanding university processes and willingness to collaborate with internal and external partners.
Proven academic mobility:
PhD from a university other than WU or at least two years of postdoc experience at another university or respected institution, 20 hours/week minimum.
International experience:
International conference presentations or stays abroad is advantageous.
Research program:
Interest in developing a personal research focus and pursuing habilitation.
Team spirit:
Flexibility, commitment, creativity.
