Junior Professor of Health and Exercise

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Salary grade W 1 LBesG | Civil servant with a fixed-term contract

Tasks and expectations:

We are seeking a candidate to represent the field of health and exercise in research and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to have a research profile with potentional for collaboration, with a focus on the development, change, and interaction of health-related factors and exercise and a particular emphasis on at least one of the following four thematic areas:

  • Diversity and inclusion in the context of health and exercise
  • Nutrition, longevity, and health-related lifestyles throughout the human lifespan
  • Health promotion and primary prevention through exercise
  • Media, digitalization, and data-driven developments in the field of health and exercise

We expect the candidate to have the potential for further development of an independent research profile in the field of health and exercise that is compatible with international standards.

Initial experience in more than one of the four thematic areas listed is desirable.

The junior professorship includes the responsibilities of teaching fundamentals, theories, research methods, and practical applications in the advertised field of research across all degree programs offered by the Institute of Sports.

The willingness to actively participate in academic self-administration is required, as is a commitment to participating in interdisciplinary research networks and continuing education programs.

In addition to the general requirements under civil service law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements specified in section 54 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate.

  • A qualified doctoral degree in Sport Science or in the field of movement and health science
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals in at least one of the four thematic areas listed previously
  • Innovative and interdisciplinary research approaches and methodologies
  • Initial experience in securing external funding or participating in competitive research projects

Teaching

  • Proof of initial teaching achievements and university-level teaching experience within the field
  • Ability and willingness to offer courses in English and German

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate and JGU are committed to the close personal mentoring of students and therefore expect teaching staff to have a strong presence at the university. A cooperative, team-oriented and proactive work attitude, strong communication skills, and the willingness to assume responsibility – including further professional development in accordance with JGU’s leadership guidelines – is also expected.

Junior professors are appointed as temporary civil servants for the duration of six years. In the fourth year of the junior professorship, a performance evaluation will take place for orientation purposes.
