Offer Description
The Faculty of Medicine of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Dr. Senckenberg Anatomy, invites applications for the following position as civil servant or public employee starting as soon as possible:
Professor (W3) of Anatomy and Computer Modeling
Applicants must have outstanding scientific credentials in Anatomy. The successful candidate will become the Director of the Anatomical Institute II and is expected to represent the field of Anatomy, both in research as well as teaching. Participation in teaching of all areas of Anatomy for medical and dentistry students is mandatory. The professorship is responsible for the dissection and the body-donation program at the institution. A dedicated contribution to anatomical teaching (i.e. by integrating virtual anatomy elements into anatomy teaching), as well as participation in the planning of the new building for the Dr. Senckenberg Anatomy are expected.
Research areas of the faculty of medicine of the Goethe-University Frankfurt/M. are cardiovascular research, neuroscience, immunology/oncology and translational pharmacology. The W3 professorship for anatomy is to be located in the field of biophysical modeling of anatomical structures. The professorship will focus on computer models of neuronal networks. Methodological knowledge in the field of computer simulations of anatomical structures is a prerequisite. Methodological links to the focus areas of “cardiovascular research” and immunology/oncology are desirable. The use of AI to analyze anatomical structures (e.g. by means of deep-learning models) should be further developed. Candidates should therefore have excellent scientific credentials in the field of “multiscale computer models of anatomical structures”. Additional knowledge in experimental research is advantageous. Participation in the main research areas of the faculty is welcome. Active participation in the medical faculty´s research networks (e.g., Collaborative Research Centers, Graduate Colleges, LOEWE initiatives, excellence clusters) is encouraged.
Prerequisites for the professorship are a degree in human medicine, a doctorate and a habilitation in anatomy or equivalent achievements. Scientific visibility of the applicant as well as successful acquisition of third-party funding (DFG; BMBF) are expected. Teaching experience in the entire subject of anatomy (dissection course, microscopic anatomy and neuroanatomy) is a further requirement.
The formal hiring requirements are defined in sections 67, and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
