At the University of Greifswald’s Chair of Landscape Economics in the Faculty of Law and Economics , there is a job vacancy expected to be available as of 1 February 2025 , subject to the allocation of funds, for a part-time (80 % ) Research Assistant .

The fixed-term contract is limited until 31 January 2029 . Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft .

The EU-funded Paludi4All project aims to increase understanding of aspects of the socio-economic, climate and environmental impacts of paludiculture, i.e., the utilisation of wet peatlands. To this end, researchers shall investigate the potential of paludiculture with regard to climate protection, environmental protection and income opportunities in rural areas, and identify innovative solutions to promote paludiculture’s implementation in Europe.

The advertised position is available at the University of Greifswald’s Landscape Economics working group, and will be responsible for the "Markets and Value Chains" work package and subtasks in the "Governance and Social Transformation" work package belonging to the Paludi4All project. Work tasks focus on analysing various value chains and sales markets for products from paludiculture biomass using perspectives from transaction cost theory and systems theory, as well as on the analysis of funding opportunities for paludiculture.

Candidates shall be encouraged to pursue a scientific qualification (e.g. a doctorate) based on the assigned tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation of possibilities for the further processing and development of marketable products from the most important paludicultures in the EU
  • Development of a transaction cost perspective on value chains from paludiculture biomass
  • Evaluation of locations and quantities of potential markets for paludiculture products in peatland-rich EU member states, as well as an estimate of future demand
  • Analysis of inhibiting and promoting factors for innovation and growth in paludiculture markets
  • Analysis of funding opportunities for paludiculture and rewetting, in particular, EU agricultural funding and national programmes in peatland-rich countries
  • Coordination, cooperation and participation in events linked to the Paludi4All project consortium
  • Scientific publication of research results

Job Requirements:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Diplom , master's or equivalent) in a relevant subject, in particular in economics and social sciences
  • Knowledge of methods and theories used in the social and economic sciences
  • Willingness to travel within Europe
  • Excellent subject-specific English language skills
  • Knowledge of peatland use, peatland protection, rewetting and paludiculture
  • Experience in scientific project work, especially in Horizon Europe projects
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Driving licence and willingness to drive a vehicle from the university’s fleet
