Overview
In this role you support the promotion and protection of economic, social and cultural rights by advising on economic policies, reviewing policy impacts, and coordinating with UN and regional partners. You will contribute to reporting and monitoring, plan programs with field staff, and help build capacity in host governments and partners. Your work advances a human rights economy, with attention to gender perspectives and sustainable development. This is a collaborative, policy-oriented role with a clear impact on rights-based policy and programme design.
Verantwortungsbereiche
- Provide policy, strategy, and program advice on ESCR-related economic policies, poverty reduction, and inequality
- Review and monitor activities under international human rights instruments and treaty mechanisms; propose recommendations
- Support treaty bodies, mechanisms and special procedures
- Prepare human rights portions of reports for General Assembly and Human Rights Council; track ratifications
- Engage with field units, regional commissions, and regional bodies to plan projects and review activities
- Collaborate with UN and non-governmental programs to integrate human rights, including gender dimensions, into programs
- Keep up-to-date on substantive human rights matters and advise on actions
- Coordinate with UN agencies and governments on policy matters and brief stakeholders
- Develop and deliver training on economic policies and human rights, emphasizing gender perspectives
- Serve as team leader for staff planning, budgeting, and administrative functions; supervise junior staff
- Perform other related duties as required
Zentrale Anforderungen
- Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, economic affairs, international relations, or related area
- At least five years as an economist working on economic policy and human rights issues
- Experience with United Nations, regional organizations or similar international settings (desirable)
- Experience in managing technical cooperation, capacity-building, and training programs (desirable)
- Experience in economic, social and cultural rights and sustainable development goals (desirable)
- Experience in team management (desirable)
- Proficiency in English; French desirable
