Junior Professor of Information Systems with a focus on AI Strategy, Management, and Governance

The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The Faculty of Law, Business & Economics at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a Junior Professor of Information Systems with a focus on AI Strategy, Management, and Governance (salary grade: W1) with tenure track to W3, who will also play a leading role in the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT (Branch Business & Information Systems Engineering) to commence as soon as possible as a fixed-term civil service position.

Fraunhofer FIT shapes the future by linking knowledge from information technology with questions from other areas of life and developing tailor-made solutions that support people in their work processes and help them in their leisure time.

The University of Bayreuth’s Faculty of Law, Business & Economics and Fraunhofer FIT – in particular, its branch Business & Information Systems Engineering (FIT-WI) – collaborate in the field of information systems. The professorship with a leading role at Fraunhofer FIT is expected to contribute to the inter-university cooperation of the University of Bayreuth with Fraunhofer FIT, in particular FIT-WI. The professorship will also assume a leadership role in the FIM Research Institute for Information Management at the University of Bayreuth.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research in AI strategy, management, and governance with a focus on planning, managing, and controlling AI in organizations to enhance business processes and models.
• Publish in renowned scientific journals and secure external funding; lead and develop a research group in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.
• Engage in teaching and supervision in English and German, including courses in Business Administration; Business & Information Systems Engineering; Finance & Information Management; Sport, Business & Law; and Health Economics.
• Collaborate intensively with public funding bodies and industry partners; participate in third-party funded projects; collaborate with Fraunhofer FIT locations on an interdisciplinary basis.
• Contribute to the faculty’s bachelor’s and master’s courses and support the transfer of research to practice.

Qualifications

• Clear research profile with a focus on AI strategy, management, and governance.
• Ability to work independently with high potential for development in research, teaching, and transfer.
• Experience with design-oriented or empirical methods is an advantage.
• Initial publication successes in reputable journals and experience with publicly and industry-funded projects are expected.
• Ambition to establish and lead a research group in a dynamic environment and strong teamwork skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Willingness to teach in English; ability to teach in English is required; commitment to teaching in German is also anticipated.
