The Faculty of Human Sciences and the Institute of Sport Science (ISPW) at the University of Bern, Switzerland, invite applicants for the position of Professor (100%; open rank) in Sport Science with a focus on Motor Control, Learning and Development.
Expected start date: August 1, 2026.
The Institute of Sport Science at the University of Bern focuses primarily on the social and behavioural sciences and is characterised by a problem-oriented approach to research and teaching.
The applicant must have internationally recognised research achievements in human movement, such as motor control, learning, and development. Ability to conceptualise and carry out interdisciplinary and experimental projects, experience in acquiring third-party funding, and the use and further development of existing ISPW research laboratories are required. In addition, research should focus on the practical fields of sport and exercise, for example competitive sport, physical activity, and school sport.
The position supports the teaching of movement and exercise science and secures the link between theory and practice for the bachelor’s degree programme. Teaching support for the master’s degree programme „Teaching and Learning“ is also expected. Applicant proof of excellent teaching (in German or English) is considered an advantage. In addition, the position cooperates with the other departments in the design of the study programmes and the ISPW doctoral programme „Problem-oriented Sports Science“.
Employment requirements: A completed doctorate and further research achievements. Very good German and English language skills are expected. Management and student supervision/mentoring experience and promotion of young scholars will be considered relative to the applicant’s academic age.
