Early German Literature with a Focus on the Late Middle Ages

At the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies, the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a
Full Professor
of
Early German Literature with a Focus on the Late Middle Ages
The position:
The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic with a strong international reputation in the field of German medieval studies with competences in their entire breadth, with a focus on the late Middle Ages. Candidates are expected to research literary German-language texts in a European context and with regard to their historical mediality. Methodological skills in the field of historical literary studies are desirable, for example in historical narratology, scholarly editing of the relationship between text and image in medieval manuscripts.
We are also looking for a committed teacher, who can teach a broad range of topics in the field of Early German Literature at Bachelor\’s, Master\’s and PhD level and is willing to take an active role in supervision at all these levels. Experience in the field of academic self-administration and curricular development are expected.

· Outstanding research achievements, excellent publication and funding record, international reputation
· Gender and diversity competence
· Experience in designing and managing large research projects
· Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at the bachelor\’s, master\’s, and doctoral level
· Willingness to take on organisational and administrative responsibilities within the Faculty and/or the University
The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and for participation in university committees.
