Head of Data Center Operations, Level D05.3.2 (m/f/d)

Do you want to make a real difference with IT? Take responsibility for the operation, further development, and support of our data centers.

Within our own IT department (Division 05 – Information and Communication Technology and Medical Technology / IKMT) and in the data centers, all IT tasks for clinical and business applications, as well as IT aspects across the entire research and teaching environment—from technical process analysis through strategic planning, implementation, and development to operations—are covered.

What to expect:

You will shape the future of our data center infrastructure: As Head of the "Data Center Infrastructure" division, you will be responsible for stable operations and will strategically develop our data center team and system landscape—including with a focus on the cloud and sustainability.

Your responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing the "Data Center Infrastructure" team with a focus on motivation, training, and structure
  • Future-oriented capacity planning (internal, external, cloud) based on technical and organizational needs analyses
  • Ensuring the smooth operation of internal data centers and their infrastructure (network, hardware, power supply, cooling, etc.)
  • Planning and implementation of IT projects in the data center environment—from expansions and migrations to modernizations
  • Coordination and monitoring of maintenance, repair, and renovation work—in compliance with security and availability standards
  • Close collaboration with other departments, as well as management and quality assurance of external service providers
  • Ensuring documentation and reports for internal reports and external audits
  • Implementation and monitoring of HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) guidelines for safe, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly data center operations

What you should bring to the table:

  • Completed academic degree (Master's/Dipl. Ing.) in Computer Science or a comparable field, or successfully completed degree from a university of applied sciences (Bachelor's/Dipl. Ing. FH), or training as an IT specialist with relevant professional experience or comparable skills and experience
  • Knowledge and experience with ITIL
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in project management
  • Very good knowledge of products/solutions from Microsoft, VMware/Broadcom, Veeam, and Citrix
  • Strong learning ability and the ability to drive many topics forward simultaneously
  • Good German skills (Level B2) and good written and spoken English skills

Compensation is based on the TV-L collective agreement in pay grade 14, with all prior service credited in accordance with the collective bargaining regulations.
