The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (SSP) of the University of Lausanne is advertising a position for:
Professor in Sport Education in Social Sciences within the Institute of Sport Sciences
Start date: 1 August 2027 or to be agreed
Workplace: Switzerland, Lausanne, Dorigny Campus
Contract duration: Associate professor: 6 years renewable, assistant professor on tenure track: 2 years renewable twice for 2 years each. After 4 years, an evaluation procedure for tenure as associate professor is initiated (Directive of Management 1.4 on conditional pre-tenure "tenure track")

The Institute of Sport Sciences (ISSUL) is UNIL’s main centre for teaching and research in the interdisciplinary field of sport sciences. It brings together experts in the humanities and social sciences (history, psychology, management, sociology) and life sciences (physiology, biomechanics, medicine, molecular biology) within the Olympic capital.
Main duties:
Teaching (45%)
This involves delivering 6 hours of teaching per week per year in French:
A teaching reduction of 2 hours per week per year is granted during the pre-tenure period in case of appointment as assistant professor on conditional pre-tenure.
The post holder will supervise Master’s theses and Doctoral dissertations.
Research (45%)
The post holder will develop their own research in the field of Sport Education (disciplinary focus: social sciences). Given the institute’s needs, profiles in psychology are not a priority/expected. The post holder’s research will result in publications of international standard. It is expected that the post holder will be affiliated with one of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences’ research centres and integrate within the Institute of Sport Sciences (ISSUL).
The post holder will seek external funding, notably from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
Administrative responsibilities (10%)
In accordance with Directive 1.13 of Management, teaching staff are expected to undertake administrative duties within their unit, faculty, and university. For the faculty, these duties include participation in committees and decision-making or representative bodies.
Desired profile
- PhD in sport sciences or social sciences or an equivalent qualification; - Experience in university teaching; - Proven research in the field of Sport Education, disciplinary focus: social sciences; - Excellent integration into international scientific networks; - Ability to attract external research funding; - Good oral and written knowledge of French and English; - Ability to teach in French within 2 years.
