Biology Laboratory Technician at 50%
to be filled within the Institute of Biology of the Functional Ecology Laboratory (LEF), affiliated with the Faculty of Science.
Activities
As a laboratory technician, you will participate in the research activities of the Functional Ecology Laboratory, under the direction of Prof. Sergio Rasmann. You will ensure the day-to-day management of the laboratory, including organising workspaces, managing products, consumables and samples, as well as basic maintenance and upkeep of laboratory machines and instruments. You will also contribute to the maintenance and proper functioning of phytotrons and other experimental infrastructures, notably the greenhouse and animal facility.
You will carry out soil analyses as well as chemical analyses of plants. You will contribute to studies in ecometabolomics, including sample preparation, extraction of chemical compounds, and preparation and analysis of samples by HPLC-MS and/or GC-MS. You will support students, doctoral candidates and other laboratory members in their research projects, particularly in the preparation and monitoring of experiments in the laboratory, phytotron and field. You will participate in the setup and monitoring of field experiments aimed at studying the effects of biodiversity and climate change in alpine environments.
You will also collaborate in the general activities of the Institute of Biology, notably for safety monitoring in laboratories, equipment management, technical organisation of experiments and coordination with relevant services.
Requirements
Holding a federal certificate of capacity as a laboratory technician or an equivalent qualification, you are able to work independently and organise your activities according to priorities. You have a sense of responsibility, demonstrate rigour, responsiveness and a good team spirit.
Ideally, you have proven experience in the techniques required for the position, notably soil analyses, preparation and analysis of plant samples, chemical analyses of plants as well as the use or preparation of samples for analytical instruments such as HPLC-MS and/or GC-MS. Experience in laboratory management, maintenance of scientific equipment, work in phytotron and support for field experiments is a significant asset.
Experience or interest in functional ecology, ecometabolomics, plant-environment interactions is desirable.
You are motivated to learn new laboratory and field techniques and have a strong interest in science and technology. Possessing good analytical and organisational skills, you are proficient in standard Office software, notably Excel and Word, and have good knowledge of French and English. You are open to others and comfortable interacting with all audiences.
