Swiss 3R Competence Centre

Fixed term contract to 31.12.2026 with planned extension to 31.12.2028 and further extensions possible based on continued federal funding of Centre.
The Swiss 3R Competence Centre is a non-profit association, which promotes research, education and communication for the replacement, reduction and refinement of animal experimentation (the 3Rs principle). The Swiss 3RCC is a joint initiative of 11 universities and higher education institutions from Switzerland, the Swiss association of the pharmaceutical industry (Interpharma), the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) and Swiss Animal Protection (SAP).
Job Description
For the 7-person Directorate team in Bern, the Swiss 3RCC is looking for a Grant Officer supporting the funding management who will play a vital role in ensuring the effective and transparent distribution of research funding. The ideal candidate will serve as a bridge between the scientific community and our organization, overseeing the entire grant lifecycle from application to project completion. Working closely with international experts and review panels, they will help maintain the quality and integrity of our funding processes while supporting both applicants and grant recipients in achieving their research goals. This position combines scientific expertise with administrative oversight to strengthen our research funding program’s impact.
Description:
- Supporting and collaborating with the current Research Officer on the Funding Scheme management:
- Creating and modifying standardised application and evaluation forms to ensure an optimal funding process for both candidates and reviewers
- Screening of incoming funding applications for completeness and eligibility
- Identify and coordinate international expert reviewers to assess the applications
- Coordinate the review process with our Grant Review Panels
- Prepare funding agreements with funded applicants
- Monitoring of ongoing funded projects, primarily through the review of annual and final reports
- Update of the project webpages for further dissemination of information for both scientists and the public
- Review and authorise financial reports of all grant recipients
Candidate profile
Education and background:
- Bachelors or masters degree; preferably in a life science or 3Rs-related field, and/or
- Background in research- or scientific administration with experience in grant administration and management.
The following experience and knowledge will be favourably considered:
- Interest in the fields relevant to the 3Rs Principle (as funding applications will have a wide range of scientific fields and purposes)
- Knowledge of basic literature review processes (i.e. searching for relevant publications within the scope of the application in question)
- Some experience in research funding application assessment and/or controlling and monitoring of funding grants is preferable.
Personal Skills and Competences:
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- High degree of integrity and confidentiality
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Professional communication skills in both written and verbal form
- Strong digital literacy and ability to quickly learn new software applications
