At the University of Bremen, at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, we are seeking to fill a position in Information and Communication Technology as a Fachinformatiker:in (w/m/d) . This is a full-time (39.2 hours/week), permanent role in the core storage, scientific ocean drilling programs area.
Responsibilities
- Participate significantly in project management activities.
- Create requirement and interface analyses based on biological and geological user communities.
- Contribute to the cooperative development of mDIS (mobile Drilling Information System).
- Document processes and outcomes, and transfer knowledge to relevant user groups.
- Collaborate with partner institutes.
- Implement IT solutions during the preparation, mobilization, and execution of research drilling expeditions.
- Monitor server infrastructure.
- Manage system administration tasks including installation, operation, and maintenance of mDIS software and servers.
- Adjust hardware for users and laboratory stations.
- Perform data backups, integrity checks, and database tuning.
- Develop a web interface for scientific users.
- Support registration of International Generic Sample Numbers (IGSNs).
- Assist scientists with technical and content-related questions regarding IGSNs and mDIS.
Requirements
- Completed training as a Fachinformatiker:in or comparable qualifications, with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
- Knowledge of database access methods, development of database-driven web servers, and database server administration (SQL).
- Skills in scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash.
- Experience in managing Windows and Linux systems.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies like Docker, VirtualBox, Proxmox, and cloud computing.
- Experience in designing and programming scientific web applications.
- Background in system administration including hardware setup, configuration, network integration, and security.
- Experience in software test management, configuration management, and data modeling analysis and design.
- Good command of English (CEF Level B2).
- Interest in working within an international, interdisciplinary team, with strong social and communication skills.
- High commitment, resilience, and solution-oriented approach.
- Willingness to participate in sea expeditions.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of Python and PHP programming languages.
