Scientific Profile Initially the successful candidate starts as an Assistant Professor with a qualification agreement for a fixed term tenure phase of six years. After successful completion of the qualification goals, the position will be converted into a permanent Associate Professor position.
The discipline of “Computational Humanities” researches and teaches how algorithmically sophisticated and mathematically oriented methods contribute to solving problems in the humanities and open up new research opportunities. They are applied in a variety of humanities disciplines, e.g. in the study of cultural heritage objects (visual arts, music), in historical sciences or in text‑oriented sciences (linguistics, literature, philosophy, but also law and theology). The professorship thus contributes to keeping the master’s programme in Digital Humanities as well as the teachers training at the University of Graz at the cutting edge of research, and to further developing the cooperative research of the Department of Digital Humanities.
Employment Requirements
Austrian or equivalent foreign higher education degree corresponding with the position (doctorate/PhD) in the field of Digital Humanities, a humanities subject or related fields using digital methods, or in the field of computer science with a focus on humanities
Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline and for the profile of the professorship (commensurate with stage of academic career and interruptions in employment due to caring responsibilities)
Several years of experience as post‑doc or in a similar position
Skills in attracting subject‑specific project grants
Skills in higher education didactics including the use of digital media
Gender mainstreaming and diversity management skills
Professional experience abroad during academic career (preferred)
Good knowledge of English; knowledge of German preferable; willingness to acquire sufficient German language skills for internal university communication during the qualification period
International experience in presenting papers and delivering lectures
Engagement in the Digital Humanities community is preferable
Selection Criteria The successful candidate will be highly motivated, aiming for academic excellence and integrity in research and teaching. He/she will have demonstrated ability to collaborate constructively in a responsible manner and inspire colleagues and students in an interdisciplinary, internationally oriented context.
