Research Associate for the Project “Cluster of Excellence Quantum Universe” : Mergers of stellar‑mass and primordial black holes with neutron stars. § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

Apply for the Research Associate for the Project “Cluster of Excellence Quantum Universe” : Mergers of stellar‑mass and primordial black holes with neutron stars. § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG role at University of Hamburg.

Your responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
The Cluster of Excellence “Quantum Universe” performs research to understand mass and gravity at the interface between quantum physics and cosmology. The research team includes leading scientists from mathematics, particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology at the University of Hamburg and DESY.
The specific topic is related to mergers of black holes with neutron stars and their various multi‑messenger signatures including gravitational wave, electromagnetic and neutrino signals. The successful candidate possesses demonstrated expertise in the relevant areas of theoretical astrophysics (general relativity, hydrodynamics, nuclear equations of state, neutrino physics/transport, nuclear reactions and radiative transfer), in the development of code in compiled programming languages and in computational physics/supercomputing. Candidates with expertise in the construction of numerical relativity initial conditions are particularly encouraged to apply.
Postdoctoral research associates will become members of the Quantum Universe Research School (QURS), which provides academic and key skills training, as well as career planning support. In addition, they will receive individual budgets to facilitate the attendance of summer schools and conferences, and to support other educational measures.
