Start date at the earliest possible date

Working hours full-time with 40 hours

Remuneration pay group 13 TV-L

Location Rostock, Campus Südstadt

These are your tasks

A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Prof. Fabio Caruso at the University of Rostock. The project focuses on developing the theory and simulation workflows for describing light-induced superconductivity. The postdoctoral researcher will co-develop new numerical approaches within the EPW code package and carry out first-principles simulations of superconductors on high-performance computing clusters. The position includes publishing research results in international journals and presenting them at international conferences. The candidate’s academic qualifications consist of the development of an independent research profile in the field of ab initio theory of light-induced superconductivity. This goal is demonstrated by an independently authored publication in an internationally renowned journal, as well as a grant proposal submitted to an external funding agency to continue the research. It also involves teaching responsibilities: leading and tutoring exercise classes for Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in theoretical physics, as well as co-supervising theses (4 hours per week during the semester).

This makes you a good fit

  • completed scientific university degree (Diplom, Master or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a comparable field
  • completed doctoral degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a comparable field
  • several years of experience with DFT-based first-principles simulations, calculations on HPC clusters
  • experience with electron-phonon interactions, implementation of scientific software
  • excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written
  • very strong background in many-body physics and superconductivity
  • very good knowledge of electron-phonon interaction theory and/or many-body theory and their application in first-principles simulations
  • willingness to work seriously and with commitment on a project of one's own scientific qualification
  • desirable:
    • a competitive publication output, compatible with the career stage
    • personal, task-relevant qualities (e.g. excellent punctuality and working to deadlines, communication skills for presenting research results, teamwork ability for working in interdisciplinary research groups, etc.)
