The University of Vienna is internationally renowned for its excellence in teaching and research, and counts more than 7,500 academics from all disciplines. This breadth of expertise offers unique opportunities to address the complex challenges of modern society, to develop comprehensive new approaches, and educate the problem-solvers of tomorrow from a multidisciplinary perspective.

At the Faculty of Catholic Theology, the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a Full Professor of Philosophy of Religion and Philosophical Anthropology .

The position:

The task of the professorship is to work on the areas of philosophy of religion, philosophical anthropology, philosophical theology, metaphysics and other disciplines of philosophy anchored in the curricula for the study programmes of theology and religious studies in research and teaching. The professorship is intended to continue the Institute\’s tradition of engaging with the religious philosophical and anthropological currents of so-called ‘Continental Philosophy’, in particular modern and contemporary philosophy, and to promote the research focus on questions of non-European philosophies and interreligious and intercultural dialogue. The faculty aims to strengthen collaboration between the different theological disciplines and cooperation with neighbouring faculties, in particular the Faculty of Philosophy and Education. For this reason, it is looking for a scientific researcher who is qualified in the above-mentioned key areas and is actively involved in the main research areas of the Faculty and the ‘Religion and Transformation in Contemporary Society’ research centre. A Habilitation (venia docendi) in a subject field relevant to this position or an internationally accepted equivalent qualification as well as a doctorate/PhD in philosophy is desirable.

Your academic profile:

  • Proven leadership qualities
  • Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at the bachelor\’s, master\’s, and doctoral level
  • Willingness to take on organisational and administrative responsibilities within the Faculty and/or the University

The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and for participation in university committees.

We offer:

  • A dynamic research environment
