The positionThe research and teaching focus of candidates should be in one or more of the following areas of Buddhist Studies: history of philosophy, of religion, and of literature. Primary sources in Sanskrit must play a prominent role in both research and teaching. Candidates should further have command of at least one of the following languages of Buddhism namely Pali, Buddhist Chinese, Classical Tibetan. Readiness to cooperate especially with Tibetan Studies and ancient and modern South Asian Studies, as well as with other relevant disciplines of the University of Vienna is expected. Interdisciplinary work with the Cluster of Excellence EurAsian Transformations is also expected.The Department of South Asian, Tibetan and Buddhist Studies ranks among the largest university centres for the philological-cultural study of South Asia, Tibet, and Buddhism in the German-speaking world and is the home of several third-party funded research projects and the documentation center CIRDIS, and related to various research networks, such as the Cluster of Excellence EurAsian Transformations. Through cooperation with numerous academic institutions worldwide the Department is very well connected with the international scholarly community.
