The successful candidate will have a proven research focus in medieval philosophy and/or early modern philosophy. An innovative research profile is expected that contributes to the international advancement of the history of philosophy and is relevant to current systematic, historical, and interdisciplinary debates. The successful candidate will develop an independent line of research, strengthen and connect existing research priorities, and increase their international visibility and impact. The Department of Philosophy at the University of Vienna is part of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education and has a broad research and teaching profile. It has particular strengths in theoretical philosophy, especially metaphysics, philosophy of language, and philosophy of science, as well as in practical philosophy, with focuses on moral and political philosophy, applied ethics, and social philosophy. Current areas of specialization in the history of philosophy include ancient philosophy, modern philosophy, Neo-Kantianism, and research on the Vienna Circle.
