Lecturer / Senior Lecturer – Statistics This job is based in Australia, located in Sydney, NSW. Multiple roles are available at Level B (Lecturer) and Level C (Senior Lecturer).
Key Responsibilities
Mentor and guide students and colleagues; develop the next generation of academics through supervision of HDRs.
Actively carry out research in statistics, data science or financial mathematics that aligns with the School’s research strengths, aiming for publication in influential scholarly journals.
Demonstrate and continuously develop a well‑defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
Teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including specialist honours and master’s level courses, both face‑to‑face and online.
Design learning activities and resources, provide assessment and feedback using suitable approaches and learning environments.
Initiate experimental approaches to teaching and learning with support from senior academics.
Support student learning progression individually and as a cohort to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes.
Actively disseminate research findings at seminars, conferences, nationally and internationally.
Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.
Supervise postgraduate coursework projects as required.
Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and professional accreditation requirements.
Contribute to School meetings and seminars and participate in School/Faculty committees as required.
Engage in individual or collaborative research consistent with disciplinary practices.
Create scholarly impact recognised by peers in advancing disciplinary knowledge.
Conduct research under limited supervision or as part of a team, and design research projects.
Align with and demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values, and comply with health and safety policies.
Additional Duties for Level C (Senior Lecturer)
Lead research projects and, where appropriate, lead a research team.
Perform senior administrative duties as specified by the Head of Department or School.
Assume a major role in planning or committee work.
Required Qualifications and Experience
PhD or equivalent qualification in statistics, data science, financial mathematics, or relevant mathematical sciences.
Demonstrated research ability in statistics or mathematics that aligns with the School’s research directions.
Proven commitment to staying current with discipline knowledge and developments.
Experience in teaching and learning design, development, and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Experience using or designing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence.
Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
Demonstrated record of high‑quality, high‑impact research outputs and capacity for research leadership.
Strong communication skills and ability to network effectively with diverse students and staff.
Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships.
Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
