DEEP – The Institute for Deep Tech Innovation – ESMT’s entrepreneurial hub turns world‑class research into internationally leading companies. We combine deep vertical expertise with a highly selective platform that supports deep‑tech founders on their journey from lab to global markets. To strengthen our leadership in next‑generation computing, we are seeking an exceptional candidate for the role of Head of “Compute” (m/f/x, 40h).

Tasks

As Head of Compute, you will lead and expand ESMT DEEP’s activities in advanced computing, AI infrastructure, and next‑generation compute ecosystems. You will shape strategic partnerships, build flagship initiatives, and position DEEP as a leading platform for founders, researchers, corporates, and policymakers working at the frontier of compute.

This is a highly entrepreneurial leadership role at the intersection of technology, innovation, ecosystem building, and venture development.

• 
  
• Lead the team and strategic development of DEEP’s Compute vertical – including thesis, partnerships, programmes and business model
  
• Run and launch high‑impact programmes focused on compute infrastructure, semiconductors, quantum technologies, cloud, HPC, and frontier computing – including the world’s leading deep‑tech mentorship programme, the Creative Destruction Lab
  
• Build and manage relationships with world‑class start‑ups, researchers, corporates, investors, and policymakers
  
• Represent DEEP and ESMT at international conferences, industry events, and strategic stakeholder engagements
  
• Contribute to fundraising, business development, and strategic positioning activities
  
• Collaborate closely with other DEEP verticals and ESMT leadership to create cross‑sector innovation opportunities
  

Requirements

We are looking for a highly entrepreneurial and intellectually curious leader with a strong network in compute‑related industries and innovation ecosystems. You bring:

• 
  
• 10+ years of relevant professional experience in areas such as semiconductors, cloud computing, HPC, quantum technologies – at the intersection of start‑ups, venture building, or innovation management
  
• Experience in leading interdisciplinary teams
  
• Demonstrated experience in building partnerships and leading complex stakeholder relationships
  
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a hands‑on approach and strong execution capabilities
  
• Excellent communication and presentation skills in international environments
  
• Ability to operate strategically while also driving operational delivery
  
• Strong organisational and project management skills
  
• Professional fluency in English; German is a plus
  
• Existing networks across start‑ups, research institutions, corporates, investors, or public‑sector organisations are highly valued
