Senior Financial Accountant in Hamburg

The position will play a key role in the Germany Finance team, with responsibility for hands-on accounting, month-end and year-end closing, VAT preparation, balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany/agent activities. The role will also work closely with Operations and GRC/shared service teams to resolve operational accounting issues and ensure timely and accurate financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Closing

• Perform monthly and year-end closing activities
• GL accounting and balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepare OPEX, accruals, provisions and prepayments
• Prepare and review GL entries, account reconciliations in the ERP system
• Investigate and resolve accounting differences and open items
• Supporting monthly and annual closing and reporting in accordance with HGB/Local GAAP and IFRS
• Support local stator accounting and tax compliance requirements
• Provide accounting documentation and support for statory audit and external tax advisors
• Contribute to accounting process improvement when necessary

VAT & Compliance

• Prepare German VAT filings (UStVA), VAT reconciliations and related tax reporting;
• Perform VAT plausibility checks and prepare supporting documentation
• Support year-end audit and tax advisor requirements
• Support tax filing in cooperation with external tax advisors

IC & Operational Accounting

• Perform IC reconciliation, open-item clearing and netting
• Support agent/customer/vendor reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
• Work with Operations and GRC/shared services on accounting issues
• Review relevant accounting activities and follow up unresolved exceptions or open issues

Qualifications & Experience

• 7+ years relevant accounting experience, including solid hand-on experience within a German entity
• good practical knowledge of HGB experience
• Strong hands-on experience In GL accounting, month end closing and balance sheet reconciliations
• practical experience in preparing German VAT return (UStVA) and VAT reconciliation
• Solid understanding of AR/AP and Intercompany accounting
• Ability to Independently Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and open Items

STRONGLY PREFERRED

• IFRS experience
• International company / multinational environment
• Cross-border transactions

Language

• German: fluent, minimum strong B2, preferably C1
• English: business fluent, minimum B2
