Strategic Sourcing Manager – Raw Material & Surface Treatment Purpose of the Role
Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for assigned direct materials categories: Raw Material & Surface Treatment.
Act as business partner to key stakeholders in business (Business Units, Engineering, etc.) and Operations (Product Line Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, Production, Materials Management, etc.).
Sustain the Global Strategic Sourcing Operating Model and provide supply capability and capacity at best cost to support company’s future business needs and protect brand value.
Apply aligned sourcing processes, sustainable supplier assessments and development approaches, and establish and actively manage a performing and regulatory compliant supply base footprint, enhancing supply base performance on Quality, Delivery, and Cost (QCD).
Realize a measurable value greater than 3% in recurring and P&L effective cost reductions per year across the global third-party spend in assigned categories, supported by a leveraged and benchmarked supply base.
Grow and develop a qualified, performing Best Cost Country supply base aligned with BCC objectives, preferably in Eastern Europe, and manage a sustainable spend allocation.
Responsibilities
Manage own material categories (capacity, knowledge management, performance).
Accountable for contributing to global Direct Material & Supply Base Performance (QCD).
Represent own direct material categories within VAT organization.
Accountable for category-specific achievement of cost-optimization, supply base optimization, geographic sourcing footprint and Best Cost Country sourcing objectives.
Provide forward-looking guidance on trends, threats and opportunities in own categories.
Contribute to bottom-up alignment of the Direct Materials Category Team with company objectives.
Interface with BU / Engineering for Strategic Sourcing activities along with the PDP (IP07) process.
Act as a change agent for main stakeholders.
Develop category sourcing strategies using defined methods and tools.
Maintain active supplier relationships of the global supply base within category perimeter, aligned with teams in Switzerland, Malaysia and Romania.
Ensure consistent application of all sourcing levers.
Contribute to main sourcing KPIs.
Assemble and lead category-specific or cross-functional sourcing board.
Monitor and assess supply base risk across own categories.
Participate in continuous improvement of direct material practices.
Qualifications
5+ years in-depth strategic and operational sourcing experience, with solid knowledge of global category management.
Demonstrated work experience on category-specific production techniques and processes.
Knowledge of category sourcing markets.
Proficiency with office software and IT applications (esp. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Experience sourcing in Eastern Europe, Asia and in Best Cost Country and spend relocation activities.
Work experience within a global complex organization.
Experience in machine building, vacuum technology and semiconductors.
Cross-functional category team management (at least one functional).
Strong communication skills with suppliers, colleagues, internal stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills (risk-based) and focus on essential facts.
Ability to get results through others, multi-task, sense of priority, stress management.
Good communication skills in German and English; other languages are plus.
