Overview: This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. The Network Engineer – Senior is responsible for installation, configuration, and support of an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), Agency Internet Network (AIN), Intranet and Internet and other data communications systems or a segment of a network system. Responsibilities include maintaining network hardware and software, monitoring network availability to all system users, and performing necessary maintenance to support network availability. The role may supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures while providing leadership/mentorship to junior & mid-level network engineers. The position also oversees the network control center, provides support to projects that involve networks, performs complex network designs, evaluates new network technologies, and ensures effective integration and optimal network performance.

Place of Performance: Wiesbaden, Germany with possible travel to field sites throughout Europe.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintains Domain Name System (DNS)/Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) services for the management of all IP addresses.
  2. Maintains and updates topology maps detailing cabling, electrical hookups, numbers of nodes, communication devices, servers, and peripherals on the NAU LAN/WAN.
  3. Assures embassy circuits maintain availability into NAU according to performance standards.
  4. Provides all telephony services to USACE NAU including desk phones, VoIP, Call Manager, conferencing, and mobile device management.
  5. Provides all data communication lines including current lines and any additional lines approved by the Government.
  6. Provides data connectivity between the NAU Headquarters’ office in Wiesbaden, the District field sites, and the USACE OCIO G/6.
  7. Establishes network specifications and analyzes workflow and security requirements.
  8. Addresses network performance issues to enhance performance via network tuning.
  9. Directs or performs installation, configuration, and testing of network equipment.
  10. Implements secure network access protocols and monitors network configurations.
  11. Leads or performs network upgrades and installs network enhancements.
  12. Performs other duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education: MA/MS with 10+ years of experience or BA/BS with 12+ years of experience.
  2. Certification Required: CCNP Enterprise Core with Implementing Cisco Enterprise Advanced Routing and Services (ENARSI) Elective, or CCNP Security, and IAT II (i.e., Security+) certification.
  3. Experience: At least 8 – 10 years supporting Cisco networks in a medium size IP network encompassing routing, switching, and VoIP communications.
  4. Extensive experience of Cisco products is required.
  5. Must qualify for Technical Expert (TE) status under the U.S. Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) in Germany.
