Role

The Applied AI Architect (OpenAI for Government) is the senior technical owner for a portfolio of public sector customers. You will shape customers’ AI strategies, translate mission priorities into adoption roadmaps, and remain accountable for technical outcomes across ChatGPT Enterprise, the OpenAI API, Codex, and other agentic AI solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical advisor and long-term technical relationship owner for a named portfolio of public sector customers and pre-sales prospects.
  • Partner with Account Directors to own the technical account plan, milestones, adoption priorities, and expansion opportunities.
  • Lead discovery with agency leaders, mission owners, executives, and technical teams to identify and prioritize use cases tied to mission and operational outcomes.
  • Develop Applied AI Architectures covering models, applications, data, integration, identity, security, privacy, governance, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Guide technical evaluations, demonstrations, workshops, prototypes, and proofs of value to build confidence in solutions and paths to production.
  • Help customers navigate security, compliance, governance, and deployment requirements specific to the public sector.
  • Maintain a focused use-case portfolio with decision criteria, ownership, blockers, success measures, delivery needs, and adoption plans.
  • Coordinate specialists across deployment engineering, implementation, enablement, security, product, and partners; remain accountable for technical progress and outcomes.
  • Track adoption, usage, account health, production readiness, and measurable mission impact; intervene early to mitigate risks.
  • Share field insights with Product, Engineering, and Research to improve products, architecture guidance, and reusable practices.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in customer-facing technical roles such as solutions architecture, solutions engineering, technical account leadership, AI deployment, or technical customer success.
  • Proven track record guiding organizations from technical evaluation to production adoption with measurable impact.
  • Experience working with government agencies, public institutions, or government contractors, and familiarity with procurement, security, compliance, and governance considerations.
  • Strong software and cloud architecture foundations, including APIs, distributed systems, data integration, identity, security, and privacy.
  • Understanding of modern AI systems, frontier models, agentic applications, model evaluation, retrieval, and enterprise AI workflows.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to build credibility with senior technical and government leaders and work effectively with engineers and program teams.
  • Experience developing technical account plans, prioritizing complex customer portfolios, and connecting adoption to measurable outcomes.
  • Public sector or relevant mission expertise is strongly preferred.
