As Head of Appraisals, you’ll lead one of the most critical functions within Vintage.com, shaping how we assess, value and purchase thousands of customer items every week across multiple European markets. This is an opportunity to build on strong foundations and take the function to the next level. You’ll develop a high‑performing, scalable operation that combines expert appraisal knowledge with data, technology and AI‑enabled tools to drive greater speed, accuracy and consistency. Working closely with leaders across the Netherlands, the UK and our wider support functions, you’ll play a key role in our next phase of growth. As we continue to expand across Europe, you’ll help define what world‑class appraisals looks like, ensuring the function can scale efficiently while maintaining exceptional quality and commercial performance. Success in this role requires a balance of strategic leadership, operational excellence and people development. You’ll create an environment where talented appraisers can thrive, continuously improve and grow their careers, while delivering outstanding results for our customers and the business.
Lead, develop and scale a high‑performing Appraisals team to support continued business growth
Deliver exceptional operational performance, maintaining productivity targets of 25–30 boxes per appraiser, per day
Maintain industry‑leading quality standards, achieving ≥95% quality control through effective auditing, coaching and feedback
Drive strong commercial outcomes through data‑led decision making, performance management and KPI ownership
Embed technology, automation and AI‑supported processes to improve efficiency, consistency and scalability
Partner closely with UK and European stakeholders to share best practice, drive continuous improvement and shape the future of the Appraisals function
Build leadership capability within the team, creating clear development pathways and succession plans
Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous learning
Key Responsibilities What you’ll be doing:
Lead, coach and develop a team of Appraisers, creating clear progression pathways and a strong performance culture
Set clear KPIs, track performance, and hold regular 1:1s and performance reviews
Own team output, balancing productivity, quality and commercial performance
Use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement
Introduce and embed AI tools and automation to enhance appraisal consistency and efficiency
Conduct regular quality audits, providing clear, actionable feedback
Work closely with operations to plan workload, staffing and resource allocation
Act as a key decision‑maker for complex or high‑value cases
Continuously review and improve processes to support scale and growth
Create a collaborative, accountable and high‑energy team environment
Essential Skills & Experience:
Strong leadership experience in a fast‑paced, operational or production environment
Proven ability to manage performance, KPIs and team productivity at scale
Commercial awareness, able to balance customer outcomes with business performance
Experience driving process improvement, ideally including automation or AI adoption
Excellent coaching and people development skills
Strong communication skills, with excellent command of English
Analytical mindset, comfortable using data to inform decisions
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Comfortable working in a changing, fast‑growth environment
Confident using systems, tools and technology to improve ways of working
Physically able to support operational tasks where needed
(Knowledge of antiques or second‑hand goods is a bonus, but not essential, we’re more interested in your ability to lead people and build high‑performing teams.)
