About the role
Our client is a building and technical services organisation operating in Germany, looking to appoint a Construction Manager on a contract basis. The role covers the delivery of construction projects across electrical, mechanical and civil disciplines, and suits someone who is comfortable overseeing several trades on the same site and keeping them working together.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the execution of works on site, from mobilisation through to completion and handover. You will coordinate subcontractors and specialist suppliers, monitor progress against programme and budget, and make sure the works meet the required technical, quality and safety standards. Because the role spans electrical, mechanical and civil packages, a good understanding of how these disciplines interface is important.
You will work closely with project managers, engineers, designers and the client’s site representatives, and you will be the main point of contact on site for day-to-day decisions. Rate, start date, contract duration, exact project location and working arrangements will be confirmed with candidates.
Main responsibilities
- Manage the on-site execution of electrical, mechanical and civil construction works
- Plan and coordinate the work of subcontractors and trades, keeping activities aligned with the project programme
- Monitor progress, costs and resources, and report to project management and the client
- Review drawings, specifications and method statements, and resolve technical issues on site
- Manage interfaces between disciplines to avoid clashes, delays and rework
- Enforce health and safety requirements, site rules and relevant German and EU regulations
- Carry out quality inspections and oversee testing, commissioning and acceptance of the works
- Manage variations, site instructions and progress documentation
- Hold regular site meetings and keep stakeholders informed of progress and risks
- Oversee handover, including as-built information, certificates and completion records
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Site Manager on projects involving electrical, mechanical and civil works
- Sound understanding of building services and construction processes across all three disciplines
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and delivering to programme and budget
- Strong health and safety awareness and knowledge of site safety requirements
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to manage multidisciplinary teams on site
Desirable
- A technical qualification in engineering, construction or a related field
- Experience of industrial, commercial or infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of German construction standards and regulations
- Experience of commissioning and handover on complex multi-trade projects
- German language skills
