Job Summary

The Global Equipment Engineering Team has an essential role within West’s Global Engineering to support the company’s growth by providing state-of-the-art production equipment and continuous improvement of existing equipment to secure West’s technical leadership role in the market. As a part of this team you will specify, improve and implement our equipment for rubber extruding, straining and dimensioning processes in our global production facilities. You will work closely with other engineering functions - facility engineering, process engineering, procurement, quality groups and site teams.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • As Subject Matter Expert (SME) for compounding and dimensioning equipment you lead engineering, management, plant operations and global team members while working with vendors to develop engineering specifications for new equipment or required improvements on existing equipment to support the rubber mixing and dimensioning process.
  • Drive forward the standardization and harmonization of our production equipment and associated documentation across the global network.
  • Work with Process Engineering to analyze and evaluate existing systems and processes, identifying value-added and non-value-added activities to identify required design challenges.
  • Keep up to date on new and future equipment standards and trends in the market and identify value-added improvements which may be beneficial.
  • Work independently and with vendors to understand root causes of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate equipment modifications.
  • Take the lead in systematic problem-solving activities where the manufacturing plants need support.
  • Coordinate and/or execute all necessary GMP-related validations and/or process engineering evaluations as needed for manufacturing equipment.
  • Be the technical point of contact with your equipment vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks, with clear communication of tasks, actions and monitor equipment deliverables including FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ etc.
  • As the person responsible for defined manufacturing equipment in our global organization, set standards based on industry best practices to achieve corporate goals for Quality, Overall Efficiency, Cost Reduction and Safety.
  • Work with global maintenance teams, local site engineering teams, and the equipment vendors to:
    • Ensure appropriate preventative and corrective maintenance procedures are developed and include all tasks required to ensure equipment reliability, safety and performance.
    • Participate in routine network collaboration forums focusing on continuous improvement and information sharing.
    • Take the lead in systematic problem-solving activities where the manufacturing plants need support.
  • Project Management: Take the lead on equipment project management from the URS issue to PQ by applying current project management practices including GMP-conform documentation.
  • Research and analyze data such as vendor design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to follow equipment-related corporate goals.
  • Ensure all equipment aligns with the latest Safety Regulations.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science or Engineering (Electrical, Control, or Industrial preferred)
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Manufacturing Environment/ Equipment control related
  • Experience managing equipment projects including specification, procurement, installation and qualification
  • Strong engineering and troubleshooting skills
  • Proven working experience in project management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects in a dynamic environment with minimal direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and preferably a 2nd language)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to drive change and to think outside the box
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects in manufacturing industries
  • Practical knowledge in GMP-related environments would be a plus
  • Experience in the field of mixing and dimensioning of rubber is beneficial
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills
  • Working experience with Microsoft Office products, PowerBI, SolidWorks and/or other CAD systems
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times
  • Able to comply with the company’s quality policy at all times.

Travel Requirements

20%: Up to 52 business days per year

Physical Requirements

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, with occasional exertion up to 10 lbs (4 kg). Exerting up to 10 lbs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
