Job Description
The Institute of Geography at the Faculty of Geosciences (FB 14), University of Münster, Germany, seeks to fill the following position commencing on 1 August 2026:\\nProfessorship (W3) in Political Geography\\n\\nThe prospective appointee (m/f/d) will represent the field of political geography in research and teach across the breadth of human geography. They are expected to have a clearly profiled research focus, characterised by a power-critical perspective on current and innovative topics in political geography. Possible fields of research include critical geopolitics, conflicts over space and resources, the governmentality of space, geographies of violence, risk and security, biopolitics, technopolitics and necropolitics, geographies of the «New Right» and right-wing spatial productions, conflicts over religion and space, critical border studies, critical data studies or feminist political geography.
The work of the future appointee will extend to the existing research perspectives and topics of the Institute and will complement joint research projects at the institutional, departmental and university level (e. g. co-funded project «Migration, Diaspora, Citizenship» 2024-2029, Impact Areas Dynamic Societies, Sustainable Futures).\\n\\nThe successful candidate will be experienced in teaching human geography and human geography methods.
Experience with innovative teaching concepts, research-based learning, excursions and summer schools would be an advantage. They should have experience in academic self-administration and a strong willingness to actively contribute to the design, organization and development of the Institute and its high-enrolment degree programmes.\\n\\nThe prospective appointee will have a proven track record of relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals to international standards and extensive experience in the acquisition of external funding.\\n\\nTo be eligible for consideration, the candidate must hold a university degree, an above-average doctoral degree, particular pedagogical aptitude and exceptional research skills obtained through an assistant professorship (Juniorprofessur), a habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institution, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant field in Germany or abroad.\\n\\nThe University of Münster strongly supports equal opportunity and diversity.
