About the role:
Interested in starting a career in research publishing? Wiley’s Comprehensive Editorial Evaluation Team, responsible for managing the peer-review process and decision-making for a portfolio of over 120 in-house journals across physical, life, and health sciences, including renowned journals such as Advanced Science , Advanced Materials , Advanced Healthcare Materials , and other Advanced journals, Angewandte Chemie , Chemistry Europe titles, Small , physica status solidi , Aging Cell , and Molecular Nutrition & Food Research , is expanding and therefore looking for additional Assistant Editors.
How you will make an impact:
You will…
- Be responsible for the peer-review process and editorial decision-making from submission until acceptance for publication – initial scientific evaluation of manuscripts to determine suitability (triage), reviewer selection for those passing triage, scientific assessment of reviewer reports and revised manuscripts, and making final editorial decisions regarding publication.
- Have many (online) interactions with our authors and reviewers – researchers from all over the world.
- Be an active member of a global editorial team and regularly collaborate with other international colleagues.
- Be involved in cross-functional/departmental projects that may include, but are not limited to, strategic content acquisition for our journals e.g. special issues; development and implementation of training; workflow optimization and more.
- Altogether, gain on-the-job experience in many different aspects of scholarly publishing.
What we look for:
- Have a PhD degree in the natural sciences; any additional postdoc experience would be beneficial.
- Experience in energy generation, energy storage (batteries, supercapacitors, electrocatalysis), microbiology, bioinformatics/computational biology/systems biology, human genetics, biomedical engineering (biomaterials, bioelectronic devices, biosensors) for diagnosis, understanding and therapy of disease (including animal models of disease utilizing cell and molecular biology techniques).
- Have a passion for science and its communication and are keen to broaden their knowledge by working across a spectrum of research areas.
- Have a good understanding of the peer-review process (for example, have been previously involved as an editor, author, or reviewer).
- Be self-motivated, diplomatic, and flexible, with outstanding organizational, time management, and communication skills, and have excellent command of the English language (both written and verbal).
- Can collaborate efficiently and effectively on multiple products with many different colleagues in teams across various global office locations.
- Previous experience with a manuscript handling system (e.g., Editorial Manager or ScholarOne), previous publishing/scientific communication experience in a fast-paced environment, and an interest in data analysis would be advantageous.
