Senior System Engineer

The Senior System Engineer plays a key role in providing secure, stable, and scalable IT infrastructure services according to Rieter’s global business needs. This position is mainly responsible for the global server and storage hardware infrastructure operated in on premise data centres and covers the areas of architecture, design, implementation, operation, monitoring, standardisation, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement. The position owner is jointly responsible for core IT infrastructure services operated internally and works closely with global IT teams, business stakeholders, and external partners to ensure reliable and future‑oriented infrastructure services.

Your Tasks

  • Design, build, operate, and continuously improve the global IT infrastructure services with a focus on server, storage, SAN, virtualization, and Active Directory technologies.
  • Manage physical and virtual server platforms, storage systems, SAN infrastructure, and related data centre IT hardware components.
  • Plan and execute hardware lifecycle activities, including technology refreshes, firmware and driver updates, capacity planning, end‑of‑life replacements, and coordination with external vendors.
  • Provide second‑ and third‑level support for server, storage, SAN, virtualization, Windows Server, and Active Directory services.
  • Analyze business and IT requirements and develop secure, scalable, and cost‑effective infrastructure solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with configuration, security, operational, and documentation standards.
  • Automate recurring operational tasks using scripting and tooling, especially PowerShell.
  • Collaborate with global IT teams, local IT organisations, and external partners to ensure reliable infrastructure services.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree, HF degree, or equivalent education in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least seven to ten years of professional experience in IT system engineering or operations.
  • Strong experience with enterprise server infrastructure, including physical servers, virtualization platforms, and related management tools.
  • Very good knowledge of storage and SAN technologies, including operations, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows Server, VMware, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related Microsoft infrastructure services.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation of recurring operational tasks.
  • Good understanding of infrastructure security, including server hardening, patching, privileged access, secure configuration, and monitoring.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity concepts, and Conditional Access.
  • Experience in working with vendors, external service providers, and globally distributed IT teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
