Our client operates in the aerospace sector, developing UAV platforms and ground systems. Bringing together expertise across electronics, software, systems engineering, and mechanical design, the company is building integrated solutions for complex operational requirements.
They looking for an Electronics Engineering Team Lead to take end-to-end ownership of electronic hardware development—from system architecture and design through integration, testing, qualification, and production readiness.
Combining hands-on engineering with technical leadership, you will build and mentor a small electronics team, guide external development partners, and establish robust design and quality standards. Direct aviation experience is not required; a proven track record of delivering compliant electronic products, such as CE-marked devices, is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead, and mentor a small electronics engineering team across the required hardware disciplines.
- Act as the primary technical authority for electronics within the organisation.
- Establish clear responsibilities, development processes, and engineering quality standards.
- Guide technical decisions and ensure accountability for engineering deliverables.
System Architecture & Hardware Design
- Define and own electronic system architectures for UAVs and ground systems, covering compute, power, communications, and sensor interfaces.
- Translate system and product requirements into reliable electronic designs.
- Oversee schematic design, PCB layout, component selection, and design for manufacturability.
- Address reliability, thermal behaviour, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), power integrity, and component lifecycle requirements.
External Partners & Suppliers
- Select, manage, and provide technical direction to external development partners and suppliers.
- Review and approve external designs, technical documentation, and test results.
- Ensure externally developed hardware meets internal engineering and quality standards.
- Support sourcing, supplier qualification, and long-term component planning.
Integration, Testing & Compliance
- Lead hardware integration and verification, from initial bring-up through system-level testing.
- Define and oversee functional, environmental, and compliance testing.
- Ensure complete and accurate documentation of designs, testing, and approvals.
- Take ownership of regulatory readiness, including CE conformity and applicable standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with embedded software, robotics, cloud, systems engineering, mechanical design, and product management teams.
- Ensure consistent system performance across hardware and software interfaces.
- Contribute to product-level technical decisions and system trade-offs.
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong professional experience developing electronic hardware for complex products.
- Proven experience delivering electronic products that meet applicable conformity or certification requirements, such as CE-marked devices.
- Solid practical expertise in electronic system architecture, schematic capture, PCB development, hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation.
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers, or taking responsibility as a technical lead.
- Experience managing technical work with external development partners and suppliers.
- A structured, quality-focused approach and a strong sense of ownership.
- Fluent English and strong technical communication skills.
- Knowledge of power electronics and battery-powered systems.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces, compute platforms, RF, communications, or sensor-intensive systems.
- Experience in regulated or safety-relevant environments.
- Exposure to production ramp-up and ongoing product lifecycle support.
What Makes This Role Stand Out
- End-to-end ownership of electronic hardware across UAV platforms and ground systems.
- The opportunity to build and develop an electronics engineering team.
- Direct influence on product architecture, engineering standards, and quality.
- A combination of hands-on technical work and leadership responsibility.
- Close collaboration across engineering disciplines and with external development partners.
