Job Summary Position: Research Economist (Grade8) Contract: Fixed‑term, 2years (renewable) Annual Salary: CHF120,948.00 Key Responsibilities Produce and coordinate economic and policy research projects in the division’s areas of work, including contributions to the World Trade Report and other analytical reports. Provide economic expertise to other Secretariat units, especially in dispute settlement contexts. Enhance the division’s expertise in trade areas through empirical analysis and interpretation of trade theory and trade‑agreement models; experience with structural gravity models is an advantage. Maintain technical and drafting skills, deepen knowledge of WTO agreements, and stay updated on relevant research. Undertake technical assistance and training activities; design training content for the division. Coach and mentor junior staff. Keep the division and broader trade‑policy community informed through seminars, workshops, and conferences. Represent the WTO in external fora, the media, and collaborate with partner institutions. Participate in other division activities as needed. Required Qualifications Education: PhD in Economics; specialization in international trade preferred. Knowledge experience with AI tools is valuable. Proficient drafting of economic/analytical reports, background papers, working papers, and academic journal articles. Excellent presentation and media‑appearance skills; ability to convey complex analyses to specialized audiences. Awareness of political sensitivities when advising senior management. Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines. Proven publication record in peer‑reviewed economic journals. Experience: Minimum five years of relevant experience, including academic research, is required. Behavioral Competencies: Build relationships and communicate effectively. Persuade others using facts.
