Data Protection and Compliance Specialist Germany/Austria Job Description

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Protection and Compliance Specialist (m/f/d) to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and ethics-related requirements in Germany and Austria.

Data protection relating tasks

  1. Implement and maintain local data protection policies and processes in compliance with GDPR and other relevant data protection laws in Germany and Austria.
  2. Provide expert advice and guidance to internal teams on data protection matters.
  3. Draft, negotiate and review data processing agreements and other relevant legal documents (e.g., technical and organizational measures, standard contractual clauses).
  4. Manage the records of processing activities for Germany and Austria, including compliance assessments of data processing, data privacy impact assessments, and transfer impact assessments.
  5. Respond, monitor and report on data breaches; coordinate with relevant authorities if necessary.
  6. Manage data subject requests and complaints in cooperation with the relevant business teams.
  7. Coordinate and consult local workers council on data protection matters.
  8. Conduct awareness and training sessions about data protection practices across the organization.
  9. Stay informed about the latest developments in data protection regulations and industry best practices.
  10. Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure data protection measures are effective and up-to-date.
  11. Report to the Worldline Group data privacy office and participate in the group data protection community meetings.

Ethics & Anti-Corruption relating tasks

  1. Implement ethics policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in Germany and Austria.
  2. Conduct regular training sessions and workshops to educate employees on ethical standards and practices (e.g., about gifts and invitations, conflict of interests, third party risks, whistleblower protection).
  3. Support business teams in due diligence processes for customers, suppliers and business partners.
  4. Support the legal department in drafting, negotiating and reviewing ethics and compliance clauses in contracts.
  5. Serve as a point of contact for employees to report ethical concerns or violations, ensuring confidentiality and protection from retaliation, investigating reported ethical issues and coordinating with relevant departments to resolve them effectively.
  6. Perform internal control activities related to the implementation of the anti-corruption controls.
  7. Perform risk assessments to identify the risks of corruption and the risk of failure to prevent internal fraud.
  8. Stay informed about legal framework, industry trends and best practices in ethics and compliance.

Who Are We Looking For

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business law, IT law or a related experience.
  2. Experience in drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts and data protection related documents.
  3. In-depth knowledge of GDPR, e-Privacy rules, anti-corruption and whistleblower protection regulations.
  4. Knowledge about sanctions and export controls is a plus.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work independently and as part of an international team.
  8. Relevant certifications such as CFE, ACAMS-ABAC, CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT are a plus.
  9. Experience with OneTrust Privacy tool is a plus.
  10. German native speaker level with business fluency in written and spoken English. Fluency in other European languages (e.g., French, Spanish) is a plus.
