Junior Software Engineer

*Overview *
The junior software engineer is the entry level position on the software engineer career path.

*Requirements *
The junior software engineer is a software engineer novice, they are still learning to become software engineers for their technical focus but have enough skills that show their aptitude and potential to become a fully trained software engineer (the next level on the ladder).

Over And Above The General Culture Fit Requirements a Junior Software Engineer Has To Have Some Technical Skills In Their Technical Focus:

• They understand the full syntax of the programming language of their focus
• They can write procedural code that solves simple problems
• They know the list and map data structures and how to correctly use them
• They have an understanding of object-oriented programming if the language of their focus has objects
• They have skills with the code production tools (IDE + a build tool) of the toolchain of their technical focus

Junior software engineers are rarely capable of carrying out tasks needed to be done by a software development team completely on their own, they need constant mentoring and training on the job, and explaining of concepts, practices, processes of software development and delivery. Some junior software engineers may be seasoned software engineers in a programming language not applicable to their current technical focus, these individuals usually close their skill gaps quicker and become software engineers.

*Key Accountabilities *
A junior software engineer is not expected to work autonomously, as such their key accountability is to work with their mentor to learn and demonstrate constant progress towards the next level of the career ladder.

Being on the junior software engineer job is temporary and progress to higher levels is expected.
