The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit five (5) dynamic and experienced Research Assistant, Agricultural Extension to provide support in the implementation of the "Integration of Orange-fleshed Sweetpotato Value Chain Development" into MIONJO project in Madagascar.
This position will be hosted by AfricaRice in Madagascar. The selected candidates will be based in Ambovombe, Bezaha, Bekily, Tolagnaro and Ampanihy, they will report to the Food Technology Associate Scientist and Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate to studies for developing select orange-fleshed sweetpotato processed products and other identified value chains. Cost benefit analysis will be included in these studies.
- Participate to gendered market analysis assessment for sweetpotato roots and cassava tubers in the target regions, including leaves of both crops.
- In collaboration with the Business Development specialist, assess the potential CBO to be selected for successfully engaging in an OFSP-based value chains with an enterprise perspective and identifying 2 target markets in each district.
- In collaboration with the Project Coordinator, assess the potential 2 Primary School and/or 2 Health Center to be selected for successfully engaging in OFSP vine multiplication and utilization in each district.
- Select youth and/or women as value chain specialists.
- Assist in implement the gender-responsive training program for marketing and business development skills of sweetpotato-focused value chain specialists and facilitating their on-job skill development.
- Collaborate with team members in introducing the program to district and local officials and attending agreed upon meetings with local committees and officials.
- Backstop monthly price data collection in two local markets.
- Undertake other tasks agreed upon with the supervisor.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agro-business or marketing.
- At least 3 years' experience required in similar positions.
- Understanding of agricultural value chains, including the processing sector.
- Knowledge in marketing and agribusiness.
- Experience in designing training tools and conducting youth trainings.
- Conducting survey and collecting data.
- Experience in gender-responsive interventions preferred.
- Excellent French and Malagasy speaking and writing skills; working knowledge of English.
- Willingness to travel and spend overnight in difficult conditions.
- Ability to conduct moto bicycle is mandatory.
