As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the creation and delivery of software products that enable Zalando’s internal Software Engineers and Data Engineers to protect the personal data of millions of Zalando customers at rest, in use, and in transit.
As part of this critical technology team, you will play a key role in understanding the needs of our stakeholders and help shape the future of the platform. You will be building, operating, improving, and extending data classification and privacy automation services, and working on products having a wide impact on many teams within Zalando.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient microservices.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks, optimizing code and improving overall system efficiency.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment of microservices.
- Write code that is modular, readable, easily testable, and maintainable.
- Support and maintain already existing products.
- Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality and mentor junior team members towards a culture of high-quality code.
- Support and shape Zalando’s engineering community by sharing best practices, supporting junior team members and peers.
You are a polyglot programmer with expertise in Java 11+ . Experience with Python is a plus.
You have over 3 years of hands-on experience with SpringBoot, AWS (S3, SQS, CloudFormation, IAM, DynamoDB, Secrets Manager, etc.), REST APIs, Kubernetes, Docker, and Kafka .
You have over 3 years of professional experience writing testable, maintainable, and performant code, with a proven track record of deploying and running it to production environments.
You understand and design for non-functional requirements (NFRs) such as scalability, reliability, security, and performance optimization, ensuring that your code meets high standards in these areas.
You have experience in operational excellence, including – but not limited to – monitoring, reporting, tracing, and alerting in complex, distributed components and services.
You are skilled at collaborating with engineering teams, managers, and product stakeholders from diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds.
You possess strong analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and improve system performance and reliability.
