THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As a Data Engineer within the Sales and Revenue Data team, you will take ownership of the integrity and excellence of the data products relied upon by ZMS and its partners. You will champion a robust data culture where precision is paramount, user needs are deeply integrated, and every product secures the absolute trust of its stakeholders. Collaborating across engineering, analytics, and business units, you will transform multifaceted data streams into the definitive source of truth that fuels campaign effectiveness, financial reporting, and the overarching strategic vision of ZMS.
WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
- Master Data Transformation: Use sql to transform raw data into structured, analysis-ready formats, ensuring data quality and integrity across all our pipelines.
- Design Data Models: Design and maintain flexible, robust data models that serve as the backbone for analytics, reporting, and operational needs across ZMS and Zalando.
- Own Data Reliability: Define and uphold quality standards for our data products, from SLAs and data contracts to monitoring and incident response, ensuring our customers can always trust what they see.
- Champion the Customer: Deeply understand the needs of our operators, analytics partners, and financial stakeholders, and translate those needs into data products that are accurate, timely, and actually useful.
- Elevate Data Culture: Set the bar for data quality across the team: drive standards, run reviews, and help engineers and analysts grow their data craft.
- You're fluent in dbt, SQL, and Python, with a track record of turning messy raw data into reliable, production-ready assets.
- You've owned data products end-to-end, so you know where they tend to break, how to set high quality standards, and why cutting corners never pays off.
- You bring strong DevOps habits to data—comfortable managing infrastructure as code, setting up CI/CD pipelines, and automating deployments
- You talk directly with stakeholders to uncover what they actually need, building practical tools rather than just chasing technical novelties.
- You design for the long haul, creating modular data models that scale smoothly as business needs evolve.
- You're comfortable in cloud-native setups and have hands-on experience with platforms like Databricks or AWS.
- You treat data quality as non-negotiable—whether using dbt tests, data contracts, or custom frameworks, you keep data trustworthy.
- You translate complex technical details into clear, simple language that helps non-technical partners take action.
- Nice to have: Experience building data infrastructure that supports ML or AI workflows.
