Overview
In this role you will lead the scientific direction for Zalando’s ranking and recommendations, applying advanced ML and deep learning to improve the customer journey at scale. You’ll shape roadmaps across product areas, mentor senior scientists, and partner with product managers to deliver state-of-the-art ML solutions. You’ll tackle real-world personalization challenges, delivering in production with high impact for millions of customers. This role combines research leadership with hands-on implementation and cross-functional collaboration.

Verantwortungsbereiche
- Research, deploy, and architect ML and deep learning solutions for ranking and recommendations
- Collaborate with multiple teams to align science strategy with product goals
- Develop long-term research roadmaps spanning several product areas
- Act as sparring partner to Zalando senior leadership on investments and make-or-buy decisions
- Mentor senior and principal scientists and share knowledge within Zalando’s science community
- Partner with applied science leaders and product managers to deliver ML solutions
- Lead large delivery projects with production-grade ML models for personalization across the customer journey
Zentrale Anforderungen
- PhD in Machine Learning and AI with 8+ years of industry experience (deep learning, multi-armed bandits, sequential decision-making)
- Experience leading scientific roadmaps across multiple product areas
- Strong track record applying ML to real-world problems throughout the product lifecycle
- Authority on deep learning with publications and practical research impact
- Hands-on deep learning experience in Python using PyTorch or TensorFlow for RL
- Proficiency with AWS and cloud platforms
