ifo Postdoctoral Researcher / Economist (f/m/d): Public / Behavioral / Labor Economics for the Ludwig Erhard ifo Center for Social Market Economy and Institutional Economics located in Fuerth.

We are looking for a postdoc (f/m/d) to join our team in Fürth for up to two years starting as soon as possible. The possible research areas are public economics, behavioral economics, labor economics, and other economic research fields relevant to the development of the Social Market Economy. At the Ludwig Erhard ifo Center for Social Market Economy and Institutional Economics in Fürth, we investigate how institutions should be designed to meet current challenges – such as demographic change, climate change, and economic inequality.

We would like to answer questions such as: What is the impact of the institutional framework, e.g., the tax and transfer system or the pension scheme, on behavior? When do individuals break the rules? What do people know about economic mechanisms and how can their knowledge be improved?

Join us in this task! We seek a team member who is passionate about high-quality research on policy-relevant questions, has a strong drive to further their own research agenda, and is willing to give guidance to doctoral candidates and to communicate their research to the public and media.

The ifo Institute is one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. We work on issues relevant to economics and economic policy at the highest scientific level and with an international reach, developing research-based recommendations for action for policymakers, business, and society.

Your new job includes:

  3. Guidance for doctoral candidates.
  4. Publishing your research results in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
  5. Making your research results accessible to the general public.

What we expect from your profile:

  1. You have a degree in economics with a focus on public economics, behavioral economics, labor economics or a related field and have completed your PhD by job start.
  2. You have already proven your relevant knowledge and experience through articles in internationally recognized refereed journals or working papers suitable for publication.
  3. You contribute in-depth knowledge of methods of experimental economics (field, lab, survey) or applied microeconometrics, and applied economics.
  4. You have experience with big data and machine learning methods; this would be a particular asset.
  5. With excellent English skills, both written and spoken, you are able to interact confidently in the international network of researchers.
  6. Knowledge of German is an advantage.
  7. You are a team player and like to take responsibility for yourself and others.

Our junior faculty members:

  1. Work on exciting questions in virtually all fields of economics.
  2. Regularly publish in top general interest and field journals.
  3. Cause impact by bringing scientific findings into policy debates.
  4. Contribute to the debate on economic and educational policy in line with our claim \“Shaping the Economic Debate\“.
  5. Are highly demanded on the international job market, both in academia and in industry, and achieve placements as full or associate professors at top universities.

People are part of a team of about 111 economists, embedded in a vibrant economics community in Fuerth, Nuremberg, and Munich, connected to the Department of Economics at FAU Nuremberg, and can participate in the Junior Faculty Development Program, with opportunities to teach at FAU Nuremberg and LMU Munich, and engage with international top-class economists within our CESifo network with over 1,800 members from all over the world.
