Overview

Landscape Alliance (CIFOR & ICRAF in Action) is a non-profit, global research centre dedicated to advancing human well-being, environmental conservation, and equity. It maintains headquarters in Bogor, Indonesia, and Nairobi, Kenya, with a global presence. Landscape Alliance conducts research to inform policies and practices that affect forests and landscapes in developing countries. Its research embraces a green economy, sustainable landscapes and livelihoods, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and food security and nutrition under inclusive multi-stakeholder processes.

Landscape Alliance and its Capacity Development and Education hub have expanded its Landscape Academy with a dedicated learning management system and community features with abilities for offline, online and blended courses, social learning, community engagement, collaborative course design and content management on landscape-related topics.

A team of instructional and learning designers work within Landscape Alliance projects and contribute to the creation and delivery of engaging online and blended learning experiences, including courses and resources such as guides, toolkits, and blogs, hosted on the Landscape Academy. This learning designer position has a particular focus on landscape finance and/or more broadly sustainable finance.

Job Description

The main objective of the learning designer is to create effective,engaging and accessible online and blended learning experiences that helplearners acquire specific competencies. The role focuses on assessing learnerneeds, designing competency-based curricula and experiences, and developingcontent and e-learning material/products in collaboration with subject matterexperts.

Planning and analysis

• Supportthe course development coordinator with course scoping and initiation;collaborate with subject matter experts and project staff to develop courseconcept notes.
• Leadtraining needs analysis; and collaborate with subject matter experts to definelearner profiles, learning gaps and desired competencies.
• Defineclear, measurable, and competence-based learning objectives and courseoutcomes, applying relevant learning theories to enhance learning.
• Analysethe learning context considering available technology, language, timeconstraints and access.
• Developa comprehensive course outline aligning course and module outcomes withlearning activities and assessments. Coordinate consultations with subjectmatter experts and integrate their feedback. As needed, design for blendingonline and offline activities.
• Collaboratewith subject matter experts on content and assets, weighing comprehensiveness,accuracy, and relevance for learners.
• Developa course prototype that captures the course's look and feel and the keyinteractive elements.
• Developdetailed course scripts (structure, narration, interaction logic, feedback,interactive activities, assessments to measure competency, and developmentinstructions).
• Facilitatea collaborative process with subject matter experts and ensure formal approvalof the course design.
• Buildthe course in the selected authoring tools, based on approved course outlinesand scripts. Facilitate a collaborative process with subject matter experts andensure formal approval of the alpha and beta versions.
• ProduceSCORM-compliant modules, and select and integrate appropriate multimedia andinteractive elements, ensuring technical functionality, accessibility andplatform compliance.
• Facilitatequality control, copy-editing, and, where needed, translation of courses indifferent languages, and support course administration on the learningmanagement system.
• Designcourse pages and define learner analytics.
• Pilottest courses with small groups of learners, and update accordingly, wherefeasible.
• Supportcourse marketing and outreach.
• Providelearner support and facilitate a supportive learning community.

Evaluation and upgrades

• Designand facilitate use surveys, interviews and analytics to collect and analyzelearner feedback in evaluation reports.
• Overseeand manage the assessment and manage certification process.
• Useevaluation data and learner feedback to iterate and improve the learningexperience.
• Maintain detailed records of the design process.

Education, Experience and Technical skills

• Excellent understanding of principles of pedagogy for sustainable development and adult education, and having experience with online learning design and learning management systems
• Experience with instructional design models (ADDIE, SAMR, backward design)
• Strong demonstrated experience with Moodle-based LMS, Articulate Rise and Storyline
• 5+ years of experience in leading instructional/learning design, or an undergraduate degree in instructional design, pedagogy or a related field
• Understanding of WordPress CMS and data management systems or an undergraduate degree in instructional design, pedagogy or a related field

Personal Attributes and Competencies

• Interested in working in a dynamic and international team
• Comfortable with remote work
• Fluent in English. French and Spanish speaker is desirable
• Organized and able to manage project deliverables and timelines

Terms and conditions

• This is a consultancy position
• The period of the consultancy is 12 months
