We're looking for the person who will own ZOVU's technology: the architecture, the engineering team and the technical roadmap. You'll work directly with the founder, still write code when it matters, and make the calls that decide how well our platform holds up as we grow across Europe and the US.
About ZOVU
Most restaurants run on a stack of disconnected tools: one for the till, one for bookings, one for loyalty, one for the staff rota, and a spreadsheet holding it all together. ZOVU replaces that with one operating system for hospitality: point of sale, reservations, kitchen display, staff planning, loyalty, inventory and back-office reporting on a single platform.
Restaurants pay us no monthly fee. We earn a small margin on each transaction, so we only make money when our restaurants do.
We're selling in the Netherlands, the UK and the US. On top of the platform we're building a consumer app with restaurant discovery, events, a video food feed, a social layer and in-app ordering, launching first in Los Angeles and the Netherlands.
We're a team of 16 across engineering, design, sales and HR.
What you'll own
- Architecture and technical direction across our tablet POS, backend, web apps and the upcoming consumer app.
- The engineering team. Lead and mentor our developers, set the bar for code review, testing and releases, and shape who we hire next.
- Reliability. A POS that fails on a Friday night costs a restaurant real money. Uptime, offline behaviour, monitoring and incident response are yours.
- Payments and data. Every transaction has to reconcile. You'll own payment integrity, security, multi-tenant data isolation and data residency across the EU and US.
- The consumer app, from zero. Decide how we build it and connect it to our POS and reservation system, so we own the guest journey from booking to the next visit.
- Fundraising. You'll be the technical voice in investor conversations and due diligence.
Our stack
A Flutter/Dart tablet POS, a Node and TypeScript backend with Prisma and PostgreSQL on Google Cloud Run, React web apps, and a React Native kitchen display, all in one multi-tenant monorepo.
What's already built
You won't start from a blank page. The POS already handles table service, courses, split bills, tips, refunds, discounts, printer routing and staff permissions, alongside reservations, a kitchen display, staff clock-in, reporting and a first version of loyalty. Next on the roadmap: inventory, NFC loyalty cards, a phone POS and the consumer app.
You're probably a fit if you
- Have 6+ years building production software, including time leading other engineers
- Have shipped real systems in TypeScript/Node and PostgreSQL
- Know Flutter/Dart, or have shipped serious mobile apps and can pick it up fast
- Have designed multi-tenant SaaS, ideally with payments or other transactional data
- Make good decisions with incomplete information and can explain the trade-offs in plain language
- Do your best work async, without anyone checking in on you
Bonus points
- You've worked in or with restaurants, bars or hotels
- You've built offline-first or sync-heavy apps
- You've built consumer products with feeds, video or social features
- You know your way around PCI DSS, GDPR or Google Cloud

Where we are
We're early and fundraising. The product is built; now it needs to go into restaurants and scale. If you want a large team and mature processes, this isn't the role. If you want to shape the technology of a company at this stage, it probably is.
