Postdoctoral Researcher in Functional Microbiome: The Functional Microbiome Research Group at the Institute of Medical Microbiology is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team. This full-time position (38.5 hours/week) will commence on September 1, 2024, and is funded until December 31, 2026, with a possibility of extension for another two years.

Research Area:
Functional study of personalized collections of human gut bacteria in gnotobiotic mice, focusing on colonization status and effects on the host, including metabolic and immune responses, drug metabolism, and behavior.
Location:
Institute of Medical Microbiology, University Hospital RWTH Aachen, Aachen, Germany.
- Experience working with mice, including a FELASA certificate or equivalent; experience with gnotobiotic mice is preferred.
- Strong interest in microbiology , particularly gut microbiomes.
- Excellent organizational skills and decision-making abilities.
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Proficiency in English (oral and written) is mandatory; knowledge of German (oral) is advantageous.
Job Description:
- Conduct functional studies using personalized collections of human gut bacteria in gnotobiotic experiments to assess effects on the host.
- Collaborate with the Functional Microbiome Research Group utilizing a unique anaerobic cultivation platform.
- Participate in and share responsibilities for the Gnotobiotic Unit alongside a full-time technician and animal caretakers.
- Act as a key member at the interface between the Functional Microbiome Research Group and the Institute of Laboratory Animal Sciences.
