Manager - Software Engineering Energy Platform

Location: Berlin, Germany or any German Office.

Overview

This business is an established international energy consultancy and part of a larger engineering and advisory group. It advises clients on energy markets and the energy transition, with teams across several European countries.

Alongside its advisory work, the business provides market research, data and analytics to clients through a B2B platform. That platform is now being rebuilt as a SaaS product on a Microsoft stack, covering client access, data APIs, entitlements and content delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity to take technical ownership of the platform and play a pivotal role in shaping its architecture, development, and operation.

Responsibilities

As the Manager - Software Engineering Energy Markets, you will:

• Architectural Leadership: Design the data and entitlement architecture of the platform, collaborating closely with the CTO on key architectural decisions.
• Technical Direction: Provide technical guidance to an external development partner (3-5 developers) and structure work distribution across internal and external teams.
• Software Development: Build and maintain services using .NET, C#, and ASP.NET Core, with front-end development in React.
• Platform Ownership: Oversee the platform’s technical development and operation post-rebuild.
• Team Mentorship: Mentor a Junior Developer, establish coding standards, and implement best practices in software engineering.
• Process Improvement: Introduce tools and methodologies to enhance delivery efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience: 8-10+ years in software development, with a focus on quality.
• Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in .NET, C#, and ASP.NET Core.
• Architecture Skills: Proven experience in software architecture for cloud-based, scalable systems, ideally in SaaS, platform, or data-driven environments.
• Leadership: A track record of leading workstreams and organizing tasks for other developers.
• Database Knowledge: Experience with relational databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server.
• Front-End Development: Familiarity with React or similar frameworks.
• Portfolio: A GitHub portfolio, past project, or tool you can showcase during the interview process.
• Team Collaboration: Comfort working with distributed teams across multiple countries.
• Language Skills: Fluent English (team’s working language).
• Education: A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Experience

• Azure cloud services, DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Data platforms, data APIs, entitlement or access management, and data engineering concepts.
• A Master’s degree in IT management or a related field.
• Agile product development methodologies.
• Knowledge of Python, Node.js, or JavaScript frameworks.
• German language skills or a willingness to learn conversational German.
• Interest in the energy transition (prior energy experience is not required).
