Principal Data & AI Consultant - Energy/Oil & Gas (m/f/d) in München

We're looking for a Principal Data & AI Consultant – Energy/Oil & Gas to join our Data & AI Consulting team in Germany in a hybrid working mode.

EPAM’s Data & AI practice helps organizations realize business value through consulting and delivery of end-to-end data and AI/ML solutions. Our expertise spans data platform modernization, advanced analytics, machine learning, LLMOps, agentic frameworks and Responsible AI practices.

In this role, you will lead the development of EPAM’s Energy & Utilities Data & AI practice, driving strategy, solution delivery and thought leadership for key segments such as energy transition, grid modernization, utilities operations and Oil & Gas. You will take end-to-end responsibility for market development, go-to-market execution, client relationship growth and building a high-performing consulting team.

Responsibilities

• Drive growth of the Energy & Utilities Data & AI practice for Germany, developing client relationships, target account strategies and GTM offerings
• Collaborate with clients and EPAM stakeholders to define Data & AI strategies and transformation roadmaps
• Lead strategic workshops, discovery sessions and executive-level solution design engagements
• Shape high-quality proposals and enterprise Data & AI strategies tailored to industry requirements
• Create and continuously enhance EPAM’s portfolio of Data & AI offerings for the Energy sector
• Recruit, mentor and scale a specialist team with advanced capability in data solutions and applied AI
• Act as a trusted advisor, guiding clients on architecture decisions, governance and regulatory compliance
• Represent EPAM in industry events and contribute to thought leadership initiatives
• Support business development by influencing account strategy and participating in RFP processes

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Data & AI consulting leadership roles across Energy, Utilities or Oil & Gas
• At least 5 years in senior leadership with team-building, practice development or P&L responsibilities
• Domain expertise in at least one Energy or Utilities segment: grid modernization, DER integration, energy trading, generation/transmission/distribution or demand-side management (Oil & Gas experience is a strong plus)
• Technical depth in at least one Data & AI area, such as data engineering and platforms (pipelines, lakehouse/warehouse, streaming), data modeling, governance, or applied AI and ML (including model development, MLOps and GenAI/LLM solutions)
• Experience delivering production-grade solutions using cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Working knowledge of Databricks, Snowflake and modern AI orchestration tools
• Understanding of SDLC and best practices for Data & AI product delivery
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with credibility across technical and executive levels
• Strong consulting background with a proven record in enterprise advisory roles
• Business fluency in German and English for leadership in client-facing engagements

Nice to have

• Exposure to renewables, Data Center Energy Management or DER/grid-edge technologies
• Oil & Gas domain experience (Upstream, Midstream or Downstream)
• Recognized thought leadership through publications, talks or open-source contributions
• Certification in AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks or Snowflake
• Familiarity with energy-sector regulatory frameworks, ESG compliance or safety standards
